Kathryn Collins, M.D., F.A.C.E.P. is the CEO and creator of Lifestyle Dr. She graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1977 and completed two years of residency training in Emergency Medicine at Denver Health Medical Center. After 30 years of practice as an Emergency Room doctor she came to the realization that most people have the ability to keep themselves OUT OF the Emergency Room and keep themselves healthy IF ONLY THEY KNEW some incredibly simple and easy steps they could take every day.
She also noticed an interesting thing about her own health as she enjoyed the freedom over many years that working in Emergency Rooms gives all practitioners of that specialty: the ability to design her own lifestyle around all the time spent not on duty and out of the hospital. Loving the focus, concentration, challenge and thrill of outdoor sports like rock climbing, mountaineering, back country skiing and snowboarding, and windsurfing, and having married a mountain guide and ski instructor, she became expert in these sports and participated in them regularly enough to create exceptional health in her own life. Now that she is “moving on” from the practice of Emergency Medicine, she’s particularly excited about (a) being able to design a way to share her expertise on health with others, while maintaining her ability to continue immersing in her favorite outdoor sports, and (b) incorporating her passions about movement outdoors into her health “prescription” for everyone (see especially the section on Movement).
Dr. Collins was certified in 2008 by Drs. Colin Campbell and Pamela Popper as a Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner and now devotes her time and energies in the health care professions to her new field of passion, PREVENTION AND WELLNESS EDUCATION. She lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, helping empower people with information and inspiration to take control of their own health, one simple daily lifestyle choice at a time.
