A funny thing happened on my way to my website: I got distracted! The good news is, during the weeks I wasn’t blogging or twittering or updating my status on Facebook, I’ve successfully relocated from my summer life to my winter life, enjoyed time connecting with family and friends, attended a truly inspiring event with a wise and joyful speaker, done a bunch of cool networking, and watched several inches of early snow fall onto the mountains (thought about skiing!)(thought better of it: they don’t call it “Stump Season” for nothing). The bad news is: my blog has lain dormant, and all the helpful health things I’ve been coming across and learning about are not getting transmitted on to you, my hopeful and expectant reader.
Thus I write about Procrastination, because today, at last, I have remembered yet again how wonderful and effective the Antidote for this mental and emotional affliction is. Today I elected to Take Action on my website and my blog (not exactly from an epiphany, but because an appointment with someone who would hold me accountable was scheduled). Turns out, of course, there is freedom in action, and energy, and to be re-engaged with something I really care about feels satisfying and good. Reminds me of the definition of inertia I learned in physics class: the tendency of bodies in motion to stay in motion, and of bodies at rest to stay at rest. I feel a bit like a thrown rider who has decided to get back up on the horse and gallop around again. Actually, I grew up around horses and was always really afraid of them, so let me try another analogy: I feel like I was trying to windsurf but wasn’t getting anywhere; then I noticed I’d forgotten my sail, and now I’m moving again, with direction and with speed!
I came up with an Affirmation a while back that I’m going to dust off and remember, next time I find myself sailing in circles and feeling like there’s “so much to do today” that I have no hope of getting it all done: “There’s plenty of time for what’s important to me.”
Helping people create and enjoy their own best health is one of those important things.
